In Brief

The Harvard AIDS Institute Goes Online
This fall, the Harvard AIDS Institute introduces a new site on the World Wide Web. With a focus on basic, clinical, epidemiologic, and social science research, the site offers links that permit users to connect to other relevant sites worldwide. The site also provides general information about the Institute and descriptions of the Institute's initiatives to promote solutions to the AIDS epidemic through research. Configure your software to

http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/HAI.html to access the Harvard AIDS Institute's home page. The page can also be accessed through the following addresses: vine.harvard.edu (telnet) and gopher.harvard.edu (gopher).

New AIDS Seminar Series
The Harvard AIDS Institute has begun hosting a new weekly AIDS Research Seminar Series. The seminars, which feature AIDS experts speaking on a range of international issues, are held at the Harvard School of Public Health on Tuesdays during the academic year (12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Room 502, 677 Huntington Avenue, Boston). For more information, call Jacqueline Breen at 617-432-0975.
Report on AIDS in India
This winter the Harvard AIDS Institute will issue a report on the "International Symposium on AIDS in India: Biomedical and Social Research Issues and Their Policy Implications," held in May in Pune, India. The report surveys the biomedical, social, and public health issues affecting the HIV epidemic in India. The symposium was sponsored by the National AIDS Research Institute of India, the National AIDS Control Organisation of India, the Directorate of Health Services in Maharashtra State, the Indian Council of Medical Research, and the Harvard AIDS Institute. Funding was provided by the Fogarty International Center of the National Institutes of Health. Contact the Harvard AIDS Institute for complimentary copies of this report, as well as for copies of another recent international report on the pediatric AIDS epidemic in Thailand.
Holiday and Note Card Collection to Raise Funds for AIDS Research
A group of designers, printers, donors, and volunteers have joined forces to create the Harvard AIDS Institute Holiday and Note Card Collection in support of the Institute's AIDS research programs.

Several designers and printers donated services or provided services at cost to ensure that the proceeds of the Card Collection would go directly to AIDS research. Slatkin & Co., an interior design firm in New York, donated the artwork for four of the cards; the Harvard University Archives donated artwork for the fifth card. Major monetary support came from an anonymous donor and the David Geffen Foundation.

The Card Collection was launched in September at a reception for Slatkin & Co. at Bergdorf Goodman in New York. "By purchasing and sending these cards, you not only give a gift to AIDS research, but you also send a reminder that we are all touched by HIV and we are all committed to ending this terrible epidemic," said Deeda Blair, chair of the card project and a member of the Harvard AIDS Institute's International Advisory Council.

The cards sell in packets of 25; prices range from $1.00 to $2.00 per card. Contact the Harvard AIDS Institute for more information.
