Program Description
At the request of the Government of Botswana, in early 2000, the Ministry of Health and HAI established the KITSO AIDS Training Program (KITSO) in response to the expanding HIV epidemic and the lack of continuing medical education available to health professionals. KITSO combines a collaboratively developed curriculum, traditional and innovative instructional methodologies, and cutting-edge medical and scientific information to meet the AIDS training needs of Botswanas health care community. In Botswana, as well as throughout the entire southern African region, there is a crucial demand for ongoing, in-country training, accompanied by current and comprehensive information that is easily attainable and culturally appropriate. KITSOs goal is to meet these demands and ensure that physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians working in Botswana have a high level of training in the latest practices of HIV and AIDS care specific to their country. A second goal is to establish a program developed and led by Batswana in order to increase in-country leadership capacity and to establish a long-term, sustainable AIDS training program for the nation.
All of the cities and towns on this map have health professionals trained by the KITSO AIDS Training Program.
